ARTBOX is my bachelor's final thesis project, which consists on the design of an ephemeral installation to be placed in the streets of different cities. The aim of the project is to create a modular booth that can be modified in different ways to offer diverse possibilities of use.

SKETCHBOOK
The conceptualisation of the design took into account the need to create a product that is resistant, suitable for outdoor use and versatile in terms of possible uses.

ARTBOX DESIGN

The final proposal takes inspiration from packaging design. In order to face the need of the booth to unfold and outspread to create a stage.

The final technical solution is a rectangular cabin with two symmetrical modules inside, which can be extracted from the outer concrete ring, and whose walls can be opened to use the modules as separate cabins, or unfolded by 180º, joining both modules to create a large stage for hosting performances.

ARTBOX'S MAIN FUNCTIONALITIES

-PERFORMANCES. The booth is designed to allow different configurations and positions of the walls, making it perfect for any kind of performance and the specific requirements of it. Performers can come from different artistic fields (music, theatre, dance, poetry, etc.).

-WORKSHOPS AND OTHER CULTURAL ACTIVITIES. The cultural booths will have a complete versatile use: apart from offering a great place to host performances, there will also have place other cultural activities such as workshops for adults and children.

MATERIALS SELECTION

  • CONCRETE. Used for the exterior ring shell, that provides protection to the modules inside. Easy to shape.

  • STAINLESS STEEL. It will be used for the lineal translation guide. The rollers on top of the rails will also be using this material. It will also be used for the hinges and screws.

  • RUBBER TYRE. Used for the wheels to help taking the modules out from the concrete ring.

  • POLYGOOD PANELS. Surface material made of 100% recycled plastic by The Good Plastic Company (The Netherlands). Used by the walls and floor of the inner modules of the ARTBOX.
